Rich_p 23 Posted October 16, 2008 I finally removed the 1.6 ecu from my 1.9 and fitted the correct one. It now feels a bit less restrained at the top end but at low speeds it feels very kangeroory to drive Would this point towards the timing needing needed adjusting? Which way, retard or advance? If I'm honest I can't tell if its pinking or not as it's so damn noisy in there. ( Completely stripped, solid mounts all round - you get the idea). btw the ecu is a known good one. welshpug 1,657 Posted October 16, 2008 most common cause is a worn AFM and badly adjusted (or malfunctioning) throttle switch.
Rich_p 23 Posted October 16, 2008 most common cause is a worn AFM and badly adjusted (or malfunctioning) throttle switch. Why would it instantly feel like that now I have the correct 1.9 ecu but it was fine with the 1.6 one?
miamistu 1 Posted October 16, 2008 The 1.9 has a fuel overrun cutoff 'feature' if i remember correctly which is probably your problem.
Rich_p 23 Posted October 16, 2008 Right I have checked the part number of the AFM and it is a 1.9 one so that's good. I just can't get my head around why it would run fine ,no real kangerooing or jumpiness to speak of with a 1.6 ecu and then when I use the correct 1.9 version it's horrible to drive. Do I need to adjust the timing or fueling to suit the ecu if someone has already changed it to match the 1.6 ecu that was fitted before?
Baz 421 Posted October 16, 2008 Probably because you're previous one was a chipped POS iirc? Chipped ones don't have the fuel cut at idle and thus don't kangaroo as much, but drink it instead...
