Guest hot hatch stu Posted October 15, 2008 Had a new clutch in january and am getting a noise which goes away when the clutch is pressed. I guess its the release bearing. The clutch was done by Mr Clutch so i doubt it was of good quality. Would i need just the release bearing or the whole lot?
welshpug 1,657 Posted October 15, 2008 if the noise goes away when the clutch is pressed I would check the transmission fluid level, and change it as I doubt MrClutch would have used the correct 75W80 BV grade.
Guest hot hatch stu Posted October 15, 2008 Ok thanks for the help. The noise sounds like something is loose. I will try changing the transmission fluid tomorrow. Im guessing a new clutch cable would not help?
M@tt 77 Posted October 16, 2008 definitely sounds like its got a knackered release bearing, you can just replace the release bearing on its own but you'll proabbaly need to ring round a few motor factors as i only know of one place here in sheffield that stocks release bearings on their own, the rest come as part of a new clutch kit with the pressure and friction plate take it back to them and complain unless you've done thousands and thousands of miles
Guest hot hatch stu Posted October 16, 2008 Just been told it could be the gearbox. Its booked in for a tune up tomorrow so they are going to sort this out at the same time. Im fearing the worst
gazzer 1 Posted October 16, 2008 mine was the same, i thought it was the bearing but turned out to be the gear box. If you take the gear box off try moving the input shaft, i found mine wasgrinding as you turned it.
Guest hot hatch stu Posted October 17, 2008 Reversed car off drive today to take it to the garage and the noise vanished and has not come back. Am going to change the gearbox oil tomorrow just incase it has not got the correct fluid.
