1.9 Td Xu Block

Recommended Posts

Does anyone know if the 1.9 td xu (83mm bore) can be used for s16 conversion. I have read somewhere that it has piston oil sprays can anyone confirm? Any other differences like 16v head compatability, timing belt, oil pump or is the block basically same as xu10j4? I want to rebuild my s16 but don't want to pay for oversize pistons to stop the blowby.

Ive had a crank out an XUD9 before and Im sure I didnt see spray bars in there.

Why do you ask anyway, you got a spare diesel block lying around?

Trouble is, you'll have to pay £15 plus per cylinder to get it rebored whatever and I dont know if it will take 3mm overbore in any case.

Would seem a lot easier to source a new XU10 if yours is past saving.

Whether i get xu10 or xu9 it will still want a rebore, but xu10 would then require larger pistons(probably silly money knowing peugeot). Im not risking rebuilding one with just honing bores only to get blowby 20k later. Was it a turbo or normal carbers?

just measure the bores, you'll soon know if you can get away with just new rings.

I've heard many a mention of Diesel blocks being used but I don't know anyone that's actually documented as doing so!

cranks definitely!

just to add, the TD has oil spray jets not bars, but I wouldn't be surprised if you could fit the bars in their place as they just bolt in if you wanted to.

No I can see where you're coming from Monty, just as Welsh says not all XU10 blocks will have such wear.

As far as I recall it was a turbo but dont quote me!

The spare s16 engine i have to replace the current oil throwing lump has apparantly 70 odd thousand miles on it. So another 20000+ miles and its at 100000 and well worn judging by the common bore wear problems ive seen. It will have cams and higher compression ratio so cylinder pressures will be even higher so it has to be like new. Its not nice having to worry everytime you flog the motor that the oil catch is filling up quickly, or worse still a breather filter only which fires oil all oer the shop! If anyone else suffers from blowby i highly recomend and oil catch tank with large bore pipe outlets. All the ones on ebay had poxy little 20mm outles so i made one with same bore as breathers and a polini scooter filter fitted- These mods seem to have reduced the oil throwing antics a great deal. Also most cars i see usually have a breather from rocker to intake and some also have one from rocker to block, the s16 only has one from rocker to block and im thinking this doesnt help matters. I will be adding an extra breather from rocker to oil catch on new engine.

I may be able to get hold of some gti6 oversize genuine pistons and rods which have done 20k from a friend, will these fit to a s16 crank and are the valve cutouts significantly different to s16?
