Kennyb 0 Posted October 12, 2008 OK i've had a squeel from alt belt everytime it rains???? belts tight and checked all fine Could people please tell me if there is supposed to be a cover here? (pic taken - drivers side inside arch) my thoughts are that rain off the road is being thrown up and making the belt slip on the pulley? Cheers, guys
DooBeDooBeDo 1 Posted October 12, 2008 There's no cover on mine. I replaced mine a couple of years ago because of sqealing, it was still tight. It may be that it's just time to replace it...

pug_ham 244 3 Cars Posted October 12, 2008 I've always removed that cover on my cars & the belt doesn't squeak, if its does then you might need to tighten the alternator belt tension slightly to stop it or fit a new belt if your current one is of an unknown age. They are fitted to the diesels iirc so you shuld be able to get one from a scrapyard, I might still have one though. Graham.
chrisj21 2 Posted October 12, 2008 From memory the cover doesn't surround the belt in anyway its just like an extension of the inner arch so i would have thought rain would still get to it. Try changing the belt only a tenner from your motor factors and 10 mins to fit. Chris
Kennyb 0 Posted October 12, 2008 Yeah I did change the belt a while back now?? already tightened it cos its the first thing I thought of.....I'll Try putting a New one on and tightening..... my last 205 was prone to snapping them.....cheers Thought I'd ask because it looks like there should be something there and just a thought cos it only happens in the rain
damien 22 1 Cars Posted October 13, 2008 as above there is a cover but its just part of the wheel arch and dont do much for the belt. A new belt is around £10 from part co,halfords etc i found that the l bracket that is on the adjusting screw was worn and the thread was damaged. It mite be worth changing it the part is sub £10 from peugeot
Alastairh 47 Posted October 13, 2008 Sounds like it needs re tensionioning. Just don't simply over tighten the 10mm bolt, or else it'll distort the bracket. You may have to slacken the adjust bracket bolt off etc. Does it feel loose?
