Tesstuff 222 Posted October 8, 2008 The AA man finally cured my 'click click click start' problems by noticing that the battery terminal was barely making contact, so my question is this :- If the battery being loose like that makes starting problematic, will it also affect anything else to do with the engine? Like fuel consumption or performance? I know it sounds stupid, but i never imagined a loose terminal could have affected my starting so much so i wouldnt be at all shocked to hear it would have affected other things. pug_ham 245 3 Cars Posted October 9, 2008 Which terminal, positive or negative? A loose (positive or negative) terminal can have a big effect on starting but imo once its up & running then a loose positive terminal will make very little difference to the performance or ecomony of your car & so will a loose negative terminal but the loose negative terminal could cause sudden power loss due to engine movement if it is loose on the gearbox stud.
