matt-k 0 Posted October 5, 2008 Hello all, after a very long rebuild ive finally got my engine in and running again, the only parts still on the engine from the original mi i bought are the pistons & crank!! buts thats anouther storey! Its running on twin webbers with the dizzy convertor and when i came to fire it up it would not run ! After many hours of pulling my hair out i discovered purely by accident that if i remove the wire with the spade connector from the top of the O/S suspension strut it fired up first time everytime but as soon as i connect it again the engine cuts dead.? Theirs one on top of the other strut too but this has no electric feed to it. Any ideas what there for? Also does anyone know what the green relay does which sits in the black box behind the N/S strut in the engine bay? Could any of these thing be related to why my windscreen wipers have just stopped working alltogether?? Thanks for any input, Matt.
pug_ham 244 3 Cars Posted October 8, 2008 The two wires to eash strut top are earths / grounding points & sholdn't have any voltage going through them but shouldn't cause any problems with your car running. I've seen loads of 205's where these wires were pretzled up or snapped & the car still ran OK. The green relay in the black box is possibly for the driving lights iirc. Graham. Super Josh 4 Posted October 8, 2008 The wires on the strut tops are to give them a decent earth, so that the brake pad wear indicator light works. Josh
welshpug 1,657 Posted October 8, 2008 sounds like someone may have got a Live and an earth mixed up, theres a few female spade terminals there, check the wire colour and look for a number.

That someones probably me! Ill have to go through the electrics this weekend, the left hand indicators playing up too, fadeing in & out. Also does anyone know the best place to get new conectors for the headlamp bulbs from as these are corroded too. Thanks, Matt.
welshpug 1,657 Posted October 10, 2008 most motor factors would eb able to supply those I believe, just a normal H4 connector, or raid a scrappy.
