trialster 0 Posted October 5, 2008 is it really needed? i man they dont have one on the 1.6 gti engines.. it seems that some of the components related to the oil cooler are leaking on my new purchase, can i ditch the whole oil cooler mess? ta!
boldy205 75 Posted October 5, 2008 dont think its needed on a Std engine, unless your tracking/ralling/seriously ranting it.
GLPoomobile 958 Posted October 5, 2008 I don't have one. You'll only see high oil temps under sustained high load/high speed (i.e. 100mph+ for a few minutes on the motorway will see the temps start to creap up).
Miles 331 1 Cars Posted October 5, 2008 It's not a oil cooler, It is a heat exchanger which heats the oil up quicker from cold which on a road car is fine, When pushed hard on track it's not so good as the oil heats the water up and the water heats the oil up. Stu 18 Posted October 7, 2008 Ive got a proper Mocal 13 row jobbie on mine, mounted at the front behind the foglight hole with plenty of air across it and after a really good session at donnington or combe the temp is upto halfway, i dread to think what a stock water to oil cooler would be like! And i too have noticed a good difference on the water temp now, no matter how much a beating it gets, it never budges on halfway.. It used to move around a bit before i swapped over to this setup.
