dcc 855 Posted October 5, 2008 My 205 has recently been given a mi16 engine transplant, however, a few weeks back i noticed it was leaking a few drips of water (very small ammount maybe 3-4 drips every 10 seconds), now it litterally PISSES out, like a bloody water pistol. annoyed with it, i looked further to where it was from, and it is a hole, maybe 2-3 mm in diameter, Below a healbolt on the front face of the engine. now we have the engine in and running for a while with no issues (let it idle and let fresh oil work its way round) and now this water leak has caused this hole. Would i be ok to try get it repaired? or do i need a new block? (the hastle of takign the engine back out is not too daunting, but i would prefer to not have to do it...) The engine was revved to 5k for a breif moment or 2-3 seconds after it was allowed to warm (10 mins of idle) to check it didnt suffer from any issues of Ignition amp failure etc.. (but it was leaking before this!) any thoughts? Its the healbolt to the left of the dipstick if its of any help, and it isnt from the headbolt goign into the block, as it isnt below it, it is on a verticle face just to the side of it! (if you put the base of your finger on the headbolt, the tip of your nail touches the hole). any thoughts or help will be greatly appreciated. Dan.
Stu 18 Posted October 5, 2008 Its had a headbolt wound in without the spacer underneath the head of the bolt perhaps? On an Mi all the headbolts have a 'cotton-reel' type spacer on them, perhaps its been forgotton at some point in the past?
dcc 855 Posted October 6, 2008 This is the first thing which i thought it could have been, but it doesnt apprear to be Under the headbolt, but it seems to be to the back - hard for me to explain it any better than that. ill have to take all the inlet off and get a picture i think! C_W 3 1 Cars Posted October 6, 2008 If it's not due to a headbolt cracking it, it sounds like the block is rotten (probably though bad coolant/anti freeze mix ratio or lack of changes).
