Fitted Another 1.6 Box And Flywheel

Recommended Posts

Rich_p

I had a replacement BE3 1.6 box fitted to my 1.9 and while it was apart replaced the flywheel with a 1.6 item (Big thanks to Mike (Duroc from this forum) for fitting it , it wouldn't have happened without him).

I have now driven it and it doesn't feel as quick as before. when not in gear it definately revs quicker but on the road it doesn't seem as lively, it used to go mental in 1st but doesn't feel like that now.

The previous 1.6 box it had was a be1, did 1.6 be1's & be3's have different ratios?

On the motorway 4k is 70mph on the clocks, I haven't checked with gps yet if the reading is correct.

Does it sound like I may have been supplied a 1.9 box?

does sound like a 1.9, 1.9 = under 4k @ 70, 1.6 = over 4k @ 70.

Just to add, here's the RPM @ 70 on their respective standard tyre sizes. (185 60 14, and 185 55 15)

BOX/FD RPM @ 70 mph

205 GTI 1.6/1.6 3655

205 GTI 1.9/1.9 3283

(I got that a bit wrong previously, it is actually 80mph that the 1.6 is over 4k)

Thanks for that.

I took it for a spin and lunchtime and it still feels more lathargic than before.

70mph is still 4k and it's running on 185/55/15's.

I'll check with the satnav tonight if the speedo is correct as that could possibly be out.

If it all seems to add up to a 1.6 box could it be the flywheel thats making it feel less eager?
