Baz 421 Posted October 2, 2008 Same here, as long as they're not majorly cracked like m,ost, particularly earlier ones, nowt wrong with a used one.
Jay_bee 0 Posted October 2, 2008 (edited) I'd be more than happy with a used one, so long as it not cracked or one thats previously cracked and since repaired. I've a day at Donington next week so I'm getting desperate..... ....anyone thats got a used, uncracked one that is prepared to sell please let me know asap please Cheers Jeff Edited October 2, 2008 by Jay_bee

sss_205GTI 0 Posted October 2, 2008 Sorry to Hi-jack -but what kinda problems will a cracked manifold cause and why was it such a common problem? Mines cracked and been repaired in the past. thanks
Baz 421 Posted October 2, 2008 Exhaust blow/loss of power etc... Just a weak point across cyl 1&2.
Jay_bee 0 Posted October 2, 2008 (edited) As Baz says, it is suposed to cause a bit of loss of power and I believe increase fuel consumption (by decreasing the engine's efficiency?). Something to do with gas velocity exiting the system, cooling down quicker, becoming more dense and therefore requiring more power to shift it... (or something like that ) Either way, you dont want a blowing system. I dont have any technical data to back that up but its what I've heard.
