Hi everyone, sorry if this is the wrong forum. iv recently bought an mi16 205 and its developed a knock, im told its the big end bearing thats making the noise so its been sat on my drive for a week or so . im trying to find a way of getting it repaired as cheap as possible because i want to sell it on. im based in staffordshire, is there anyone around here that could help or know anyone that would be able to help? if not il probably take it to the local garage and get there opinion. thanks in advance

depends how long its been knocking, but generally if they've progressed to knocking rather than rumbling it needs new shells, a regrind of the crank and a replacement conrod.

indeed, just don't run it whatever you do or you risk rendering the whole lump scrap if its not already.

Ignition timing malfunction (over advanced..) causes knocking/pinking sound as well

A crank grind and shell's (mains and big ends) cost me about £120 two years ago. If it needs a rod (if it has spun a shell) the head needs to come off, if it hasn't spun you can take the g/box off and get the crank out with the engine in situ.

If you are just looking to definitely sell it on and depending on the state of the rest of the car you might well be better just selling it on as it is as a winter project for somebody.

You could go to a lot of effort and spend a fair bit of cash for not a lot of money extra when you sell it after you've fixed it.......
