carbers205 1 Posted September 30, 2008 Hi guys, just a quick question, picked up a 306xsi at the weekend that crunches badly into 3rd and sometimes 4th when changing gear normally. Its not so bad when you just ease it into gear though. I have a spare box in my garage but before I go dismantling things could the selector rods be causing the fault? Im not too hot on gearboxes and their problems! Before anyone asks, the clutch is fairly new so I think we can discount that. Cheers Andy
alync406 4 Posted September 30, 2008 I don't think that the selector rods could really be causing the problem. Its more than likely the syncro mesh thats worn.Third gear would be the most common one to go.
welshpug 1,666 Posted September 30, 2008 might be the clutch cable.
carbers205 1 Posted September 30, 2008 If it were the cable why would it only happen in one gear? This isnt me questioning you btw, just trying to expand my knowledge!
Miles 331 1 Cars Posted October 2, 2008 Sounds like the clip around 3&4 has gone weak or broken, Easy fix and the box doesn;t even have to be removed
carbers205 1 Posted October 2, 2008 Ok that sounds promising, whereabouts might I find this clip? Inside the box? Will it be obvious to me that it is broken? Sorry for all the q's!
Miles 331 1 Cars Posted October 2, 2008 If your not good on taking the boxes apart then it's a mare really as you need air tools really to sort it, But once inside you will see parts of the clip on the Magnet inside
carbers205 1 Posted October 2, 2008 Ah ok, I have most tools but nothing air-powered. Sounds like Im best off knocking this box off and putting my spare on if thats gonna be the case. Cheers guys

carbers205 1 Posted October 4, 2008 Rich that site is quality mate. Has convinced me to swap the boxes rather than attempt to fiddle though! Might crack open the knackered box out of curiosity though, least Ill know what Im looking at now!
