Lowering Gti6 Engine

Recommended Posts

jimmer

I've heard of people lowering the gti6 engine to get over the bulkhead clearance issues using a rs2000 mount and packing washers/spacer in the gearbox mount to even it up. Does any body run this set up and does it work well? I dont like the idea of cutting and re-welding the exhaust manifold as it may upset the flow charectoristics of what is meant to be a good manifold. Also how low does the bottom of the sump hang below the subframe when this is done, cos i've got to fit a sump guard.

Any help much appreciated

I was speaking to QEP a while back and they said they were going to make a exhaust manifold angle plate, which is what im waiting for as i used one on my MI and it was great. So once that is fitted, the only problem you may have then in the M/C clearance, which i have gained more clearence by angling up the pedal box with washers.

Hope that helps.

Matt

just emailed them to find out

i'd rather have one of them than angle the engine too much

I did go the re-angled engine route originally but the driveshaft angles became ridiculous.

I've decided to modify the bulkhead now to get the clearance as my car's mainly a track/fast road hack anyway, so it's never going to be a great example.

This re-angling plate does sound good though, i'm surprised it hasn't been done earlier for the gti-6 tbh.

re-servo clearance, for an iron block Mi16 I unbolted the servo and made the holes into slots, so that the whole servo assembly could be moved up and across a touch, the servo is now a mm or 2 from the lip of the bulkhead.

I used two or three washers on the bottom of the pedal box, going to less near the top, the one under the bottom two servo mounting bolts. This has given me ctearence on the MC, but i have ground a small amount off the MC too.

Sorrento Pete: This plate has not been made yet, but the more people that are intersted, surely the sooner it may come along??

I will definatly be getting one. I will call them and find out.

not a 6, but i'm dropping my iron blocked turbo by spacing the top mount and gearbox mount down and using a correct length but 10mm lower re-welded bottom fork.

Ive tried all methods over the years and the best way is to cut and reangle the gti6 exhaust manifold. I personally have never had an issue with master cylinder clearence.

Where did you cut it to re-angle it, the flange or all 4 pipes?

How much did you re-angle it by?

I dont mean to sound like an arsehole but it was a lot of effort to get it right (cut the manifold, bolt it on, put the engine in, take engine out, mod manifold, engine in, engine out, etc etc) so I dont just tell people how to do it. Its a piece of cake, and dosent need much to clear at all.

Tbh i doubt reangling it and welding it will make alot of difference to the way it breathes, its only a small amount of reangling at the end of the day and aslong as its welded neatly there shouldnt be any flow interruptions.

Guest Paulus205GTI

Does anyone please have a picture of the Escort RS2000 top mount? I have the same problem and I would use the solution with the RS2000 top mount.

And from which type of Escort RS2000 does this top mount has to be? (which year of manufacture). Mk2?

You can mail ik to paulus205gti @ hotmail . com

Thnx!

Gr.Paul
