skeggyrik 3 Posted September 26, 2008 I'm confused, too many searches: 2 stage thermostats, blanked off water outlets, different temps, loss of power if running cool ….. Help. My situation is that that the old stat was running with the water outlet in place. I have no idea whether it's a 205 1.9 or Mi thermostat. Well it's old and the rubber seal fell to bits on inspection so it will be getting replaced. I now have a water distribution block with the solid outlet pipe removed and welded over. This will be fitted to the engine as I build it back up. So what thermostat do I put back in there and where is best to get it get it from? Thanks Rich
pug_ham 245 3 Cars Posted September 27, 2008 TBH there's nothing in it, the two stage one is used originally for circulating water just around the block for a few minutes until it gets warmed & the opening into the heater matrix before fully opening the full system whenthe thermostat opens fully. With a standard 205 one fitted the water circulates the same as in the 8v, round the bock & heater circuit until the thermostat opens bringing the rad into the system. The last thermostat I bought from my local motor factors as a kit with seals incldued for under £10. Graham.
allanallen 528 2 Cars Posted September 28, 2008 ive, done the same as you and welded the pipe up on the back of the thermostat housing and fitted an 8v distribution block. I fitted a new pug mi16 thermostat (original 2 stage one) and its absloutley fine.
