Fox 3 Posted September 24, 2008 I've recently swapped all the engine mounts on my GTI for new ones supplied by autofive to try and stop the kangarooing of the engine/transmission when taking up and letting off power. Although, I still have the problem. I replaced the top buffers aswell, but there still is a small gap, does this need closing up with spacers/washers? Arahan 4 Posted September 24, 2008 Doesnt a worn throttle cable cause the kangarooing too?
welshpug 1,657 Posted September 24, 2008 no, a badly setup injection system causes that, as well as a worn AFM.
Fox 3 Posted September 24, 2008 Doesnt a worn throttle cable cause the kangarooing too? I'm not sure, by worn do you mean sticking? I could well be barking up the wrong tree here...
Stu 18 Posted September 24, 2008 Id defo be looking at re-tracking the AFM mate first and foremost. The stock engine mounts are pretty good.
Fox 3 Posted September 24, 2008 Id defo be looking at re-tracking the AFM mate first and foremost. The stock engine mounts are pretty good. I've checked, and swapped the AFM When I say kangarooing its more of a single jolt when taking up power at slow engine speeds, it feels just like a worn bottom mount to be honest
kilauea 7 Posted September 24, 2008 Pug did make shims to take up some of the slack from the top engine mount so it won't hurt. I had about 5mm of play in mine but took it back with a thick plastic washer. It feels a nice and tight when ripping through the gears. I do have the BBM Grp N bottom mount too mind. Baz 421 Posted September 24, 2008 (edited) When I say kangarooing its more of a single jolt when taking up power at slow engine speeds, it feels just like a worn bottom mount to be honest It probably is then! As said you can pack the buffers out if you want to, but beware, particularly if you're using uprated items it will increase vibration & noise into the cabin.
