MrG 3 Posted September 22, 2008 is it worth uprating the engine mounts whilst the lump is out of the engine bay? mine are std OE items, but as the car is used primarily on the track, should I take the chance and change them for something like these>> Group N mounts Or would std items be acceptable? Gp N is the best way to go, but if u dont use often on road go the Gp A route so you get much more power and stability. The Gp A alluninium one make's the car shake a lot so while u got engine out best to seam weld the engine bay else the car mite fall apart with Gp A. Gp N is a straight swop and gives ltiile to no movement to the engine/driveshafts, you'l see a big differance when you do change them all
Anthony 1,003 Posted September 22, 2008 If it's still original, I'd take the opportunity to replace the lower engine mount atleast - the others can be easily done with the engine in the car, but the lower mount is a bit more of a pain in that it needs the driveshaft to be removed (and thus draining the gearbox oil). A Group N or Xantia TD lower mount is a worthwhile upgrade over standard.

Tom Fenton 1,542 Posted September 22, 2008 Gp N is the best way to go, but if u dont use often on road go the Gp A route so you get much more power and stability. More stability, yes, for the engine definitely. But more power? Please do explain why, as I must be missing something.

Im no macanic however if there's no movement in driveshafts surely there will be less power loss @ the wheels ?
James_R 3 Posted September 22, 2008 Nope no power gain to be hand from them If it's for a track car then consider packing out the "buffer" mounts to make the mount tight in place, however if you do this be prepared for the shell to resonate when you coast down in gear, eh anthony
MrG 3 Posted September 22, 2008 will do, thanks all, a set has been duly ordered!

SurGie 54 Posted September 23, 2008 will do, thanks all, a set has been duly ordered! Yeh i put a third one on the left side but like what i did, will need to use some sort of wedge due to that area being curved, good for sharp left hand turns an that
