Adjustable Oil Pressure Warning Light

Recommended Posts

Stu

Howdy all,

Ive been looking all morning to try and find some info on the adjustable oil pressure switches that illuminate a bulb or whatver at a given pressure, where are these available from?

Also, am i right in thinking it just switches to 'ground' when the reading is less than the desired pressure is? I.e. i want to use a side repeater as the telltale, so i figure if i give it a switched live, the switch/sender will provide the ground when the pressure is lower than the level.

Anyone done this?

They can set it for you, but they can be tweaked, I run a 25psi job from memory

Got mine off ebay but sounds similar to the above, T piece so retained standard (useless sender+gauge) and then a 25psi sender rigged to a side repeater mounted in the dash. You can adjust them with an allen key but obviously you have no idea what to unless you have a seperate mechanical gauge or something with proper readings. If I recall correctly, I wired it as follows. Earth to sender terminal 1 (doesnt matter which of the 2), wire from terminal 2 to 1st terminal on side repeater, 2nd terminal on side repeater to switched 12v nicked from one of the dash lights. So yes I guess it switches to ground when detects no pressure and I know mine works as it came on far too much at my last sprint heh! doh

Also did a video of it here! which reminds me is actually on a permanent 12v not switched, should change that really but I turn it off via the cut off switch so not a big deal

If your engine is worth it fit an SPA digital gauge, they have adjustable warning lights built in and can drive external lights too.

Funny you should say that mate i have been looking, but i figured a nice big orange light in yer face is a bit more idiot proof!

The SPA gauge can supply power to your big orange light and you can set the pressure it comes on at using the display on the gauge.

I used a high level brake light that was stuck to the rear window of my GTI when I bought it, its a row of eight red high intensity LEDs that you can't miss. LEDs are much faster reacting than bulbs so will show slight drops much more obviously. I'm considering an annoying sounding buzzer too, with a switch to turn it off when not on tracks etc.

They are bloody expensive, although you do get two functions in one (temp and pressure normally) and they are very well built. Like I said, if your engine is worth it...

Just want resurect this thread...

So by research, ive found the gauge sender is M10x1, and im hoping the aftermarket gauge 'kit' ive bought has an M10 adapter for the npt thread..

And, the oil light switch is M16 x 1.5?

So, my thought was to utilise the gauge sender tapping for the new gauge, and the stop light switch for the new low oil pressure light.

BUT... I cant find a suitable sender in M16..

I take it you guys with both use a T piece?

So, the plan is now such *i think*, suggestions are welcome!

Im fairly sure my gauge kit has an M10 adapter, sooo... given that the stock gauge sender is M10, ill get one of these..

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/POLO-GOLF-GTI-TURBO-...1742.m153.l1262

Its M10 male (for the block) and then use the M10 female end to feed the gauge (i guess the idea is to put the original sender back instead) and use the 1/8 NPT take-off for a pressure switch.

Is this what you guys normally do?
