Fitting Pas To Non Pas Gti

Right I'm feeling lazy and since when I stop my current job I'm selling the 306 so my 205 will be the to the shops car and I want it a little nicer to drive round town. With the eccentric top mounts the steering is heavy.

 

So will a rack and ram off another car fit the 205? I remember someone mentioning a 306 GTi one or a Xsara VTS one maybe. Is it easy enough to get a PAS pump to fit the Mi or just worth getting an electric one from a Saxo a bit easier?

 

Are custom lines easy enough to fabricate (like making up brake lines with copper piping) or is it best to just carefully remove some from another car?

When upgrading from 8v to 16v power I used the existing pipe work from the 8v and got the metal pressure feed pipe from the pump shortened by the local Pirtek guys. If you havent got Pirtek local to you any agricultural engineer should be able to sort you out.

Ah sorry should have been clearer, my 205 was a 1.6 so no pas gear ever fitted to it.

Very easy even if you don;t have the pipe's, Just measure them out and get them made up, The low pressure is just some PAS hose which can be bought by the metre.

You will need the Mi16 pump, Ignore this Derv pump is the same as it is not and does not really work as the offset's all wrong

Ah nice one. Mi16 pump might be hard to come by though I guess.

 

What about the rack, 1.9 205 one good or best off going for something newer/less mileage like a VTS?

You should be able to use the diesel pump, I fitted an Mi one to my STDT by just swapping the pulley over for the one off my old pump & it worked fine until I removed it because the lower column UJ had started to seize .

 

The PAS rack on a PAS euipped 205 is the same so you won't need to find one from a 1.9 205 / 309 sepcifically but if you're taking the PAS fitment route it might be worth fitting the rack from a Xsara VTS but it does involve extra work with the lower column UJ & fitting new track rods etc iirc.

You can fit up a Electric pump from a Paxo, just need some pipes made up from pirtek, just take the union ends they can make the rest up.

 

Then just fit a 205 PAS rack.

I think Anthony's got an Mi pump so hopefully that's sorted. Also there's a TD 205 in my local scrappy so unless it's got interstellar miles on it I might rob the rack from that. Wish I hadn't sold the PAS pulley that was on the engine when I got it from the breakers now

Quick question, how much modification is needed to make a 309 GTi rack fit the 205?

I think the racks are the same, you just need to wind the track rods in a bit.

sometimes rods might be too long to allow enough toe-in (so to speak) so it's best to just use 205 track rods.
