Had a bit of an accident with my hub. Think I may have pulled the drivers side driveshaft apart. Boot is still in place but I have fore and aft movement in the joint. Has it pulled apart?

If yes, how do I put it back together?

You should have movement, that's part of their job! If you've pulled it too far apart insde the boot, just rotate the shaft whilst pushing it together. If it doesn't close up in 90 deg. it's not come apart. Sounds normal and fine to me TBH

Cheers Steve.

I was probably being a bit paranoid as CV joints are one of those things I steer clear of, and I'm so scared of f***ing anything up this week as it needs to be roadworthy to get to the MOT at the end of the month, and anything that puts a spanner in the works will be very significant (as in, no MOT, no Tax, no where to keep my car, bye bye GTI :) ).

I stuck the shaft back in, and it all went back together OK, so I'm presuming it was fine. If it had come apart, would it be likely that I'd struggle to get it back in the box, hub on the wishbone balljoint, and then hubnut done up? Would putting it back together have simply pushed the joint back together anyway? Sorry for the lame questions, but like I said, I know nothing about what goes on under the CV boot.

Sounds fine, the inner joint is a tripod that slides in and out, has about 2" of movement or so, if you've got it all bolted up it sounds just fine :)
