i said gti6, there better for everyday use and still give grin enducing grunt when you nail it, the mi is just like the f16ie in clio 16v's, you wait til 4k for not alot imho, there a good track engine though

The Mi's can 'feel' flat below 4.5k, but they aren't! It surprises me how little throttle I have to give mine to keep with traffic, even to the point of jumping gears. They really come alive at the top end, making below 4.5k feel flat.

 

In comparison, the GTi6 I drove the other was just dull. Just wasn't the same as nailing the tits off an Mi16 :lol:

Totally agree with that statement alan. I loved my mi, it just pulled like a train.

There is a video on youtube somewhere of a 205 gti6 vs mi16 and the gti6 beats it quite comprehensively, they start with rolling starts so it takes driver skill out of the equasion.

 

But of course you can't put a bigger cam in a standard gti6 where you can in an mi, whether this would redress the balance who knows....

Depends what kind of gear/rev range they're starting from, as a '6 certainly has more grunt/torque and pulls from lower down, whereas you really have to keep the Mi up high on the boil, hence why they really aren't suited to anything much longer than 1.6 ratios IMO.

Put the sluty mi16 in the 205 and abuse the crap out of it where know one else sees, it loves it.

Because Mi's just are, 6's have such a linear power delivery they feel lazy and boring, no character.

 

Why would the Mi be slower? :)

I still don't buy that - that might be the difference in the weight of the block, but subjectively it feels like considerably more as a built up engine - I can lift and carry an Mi16 engine just about, but can barely drag a GTi-6; two people very easily lift an Mi16 from the floor into the boot of a car, but it's considerably harder on a GTi-6 and you ideally want three.

 

The weight to me though isn't the issue - it's one of character and delivery, the same as many people prefer a 1.6 GTi engine over a 1.9 GTi despite it having less power and being slower.

 

Power and speed isn't everything after all - if it was, then we'd not be driving 205's

Isn'tthe 17kg's difference just in the block though? Hardly a fair comparison and i'm pretty sure the actual difference is more like 30kg, certainly feels it.

I had a Mi 1.9 in my 205 which i loved, but it went bang, so when looking for a cost effective solution, it was a gti6. I think the Mi is a much better looking engine, if that matters, and looks at home in the front of that age pug. I must say though, the Gti6 seems to deliver a more linear delivery of power, though mine is on carbs so i guess this can totaly change the nature of the engine.

As in my sig, i have a Gti6 now, but want a Mi again!

Same reason as more modern cars are less fun. My girlfriend has a focus st, it would piss all over my 1.6 gti speed wise, but the gti is far more fun and rewarding to drive.

Keyword "subjectively". Think about weighlifting if you've ever done any down the gym etc. Once you get up to that limit of what you can naturally lift, you only need a few pounds more to get to the point where you can no longer lift the weight. So subjectively, what is a small difference in weight on paper, will seem like a massive increase because you physically cannot lift it.

 

Pointless addition to the tread I know, but hey, that's what I'm here for ;)

I've picked GTI6

Only because I have one fitted

The idea of fitting an mi to me is quite romantic in a way, I always wanted one but never got round to fitting one

Having driven one now as well as my 6 I prefer the 6. Although the mi was a fairly tired one :)

I ran against my friends Fiesta ST and the gti had the edge till about 80 which i was well happy with

 

Oh, Blur is my favourite car game I have played all the others over the last 2 weeks and blur is very addictive

gti6 everytime for me. ive never had a standard gti6 engine and or a standard mi in my rallye, but the 230bhp na gti6 is 100x better than the old 185 bhp mi16 i had previous. i know thats not a fair test but also my mate had a mi16 205 then converted to a gti6 engine, pulls better from all over the rev range :) driven that with both engines and still the gti6 is a much better option

 

i know some like to keep the mi engine as it fits the 205's charactor better but i prefer a more modern engine in an older car
