flipperthebushkangaroo 2 Posted September 20, 2008 As per the title really, i know it might sound daft but whats the point of a 1.9 cti? if the 1.6 gives 115bhp and the 1.9 only give 105bhp what do you gain from a 1.9? again if i understand correctly the rest of the car is the same either way? So yet again i would like to enlist you collective experteese to inform me, also thans to those of you who gave me info when i hijacked the other cti questions last night Thanks Roddie
maxi 36 1 Cars Posted September 20, 2008 The suspension is very similar to an XS setup too. Rear beam is also not as stiff as a std GTi item. As for performance, lets face it, all std 8v motors will struggle to break the 100BHP barrier now so the last one I drove didnt feel much different to a normal GTi. In fact, it felt like a GTi but with no roof. Maxi
steve@cornwall 100 Posted September 20, 2008 I reckon that at the end of the 205 run Peugeot only had the 1.9 l/c engines left
NOsMAN 10 1 Cars Posted September 23, 2008 (edited) air con, pas and an autobox O.K. mine isnt a Uk spec car and to cap it off the stopped the electric roof as well (on my car) Driven and owned both .... Point of the 1.9 is that the forgot the TURBO, which Henry has rectified Edited September 23, 2008 by NOsMAN
boombang 2 Posted September 24, 2008 I had one and midrange was very strong. Does have an odd ratio box to help it along though. Top end performance was pretty dull though. Definately a cruiser rather than Gti without roof
Henry Yorke 269 3 Cars Posted September 24, 2008 They drive beautifully. Pretty torquey but lacking slightly on initial punch but a cracking cruiser. Once you get up into 5th, you rarely need to change gear. They do have a cat on them too which could technically free up some power. Engines tend not to have been thrashed as there is little point in doing so I think they were an emissions friendly engine primarily for the more restrictive Japanese market that Peugeot tried to enter. As Chun has said, you can slide a cheeky turbo on them to compensate with no internal mods
flipperthebushkangaroo 2 Posted October 3, 2008 (edited) just got back to this thread, thanks everyone for the replies. does anyone know if the 1.9 cti had power steering as standard in this country, as the boss says she wants power steering Also is the cat a legal requirement on this car or can it be removed? Thanks Roddie Edited October 3, 2008 by flipperthebushkangaroo
Henry Yorke 269 3 Cars Posted October 3, 2008 Power steering was not standard on a 1.9 CTI and the cat is a requirement I believe as it works off chassis number. However there are some J plate 1.9's about I have seen so these may pass.
