Super Josh

Green on by the ECU plug is the diag port. Looks like a 2-pin one, so you must have the early type loom :)

Just returned from GSF with a water pump. It has a plastic/composite impeller, anyone have bad experiences of these? Going to try and track down one of these 'elasticated' alternator belts I think. Going to start fiddling with wiring tonight, not sure how much I can really do while it's all out of the car though...

Well things have moved along swiftly with the conversion, the engine and box are in, with the majority of the wiring and cooling network sorted (hopefully). Just a few new Questions-

Do people generally use the GTI6 starter, or will my old 1.6 unit still do the job? Cranked today on what was likely a fairly dead battery and it was having none of it.

I very stupidly bought a Mocal cooler kit to fit a 205 and not 306 (duh) and i was wondering if the M20 threaded insert that the non-oil cooled engines use is a generic part? If so I will just get one from the dealer and it should be exactly the same as 205 as far as i can see?

Cheers.

your gti6 will have a heat exchanger so the fitting will be the same as the 1.9 205, so I think you'd just unbolt it and fit the takeoff with the said bolt.

best to use the gti6 starter, they are far more reliable, the 1.6 one wont fit as its too bulky,

quite likely to have been a very flat battery as my gti6 engine (and starter) will start off a pretty low voltage!

You'll need the oil filter thread as the Iron blocked engine's have the threaded part on the end of the hollow bolt that fit's thru the exchanger,

I can't use the hollow exchanger bolt with Mocal kit as the diameter is a bit too small on the waist, I will pop down to the dealer and get the shorter threaded part from the non-oil cooled engines, as the Mocal Hollow bolt fits to that. I have the 1.6 starter in there now and it all fits together? Will try and track down a GTI-6 one though i think just to save me any hassle in future!
