ifcho 0 Posted September 20, 2008 We finally got everything working on my brother's car but there is one thing that frustrates me. The box is from a Citroen BX and reverse is next to the first (like older style BE1 gearboxes), however, the gearbox has no hole for the standard 205 GTI BE1 gear cable or at least I cannot find such. ifcho 0 Posted September 20, 2008 Well..yes, but I just see a breather there, like a BE3 garbox....Maybe someone has just fitted the breather cap before me. At the moment it is quite tricky, especiially intown driving, cause reverse and first are very close and sometimes you go backwards instead of forward I'm not sure, without the cable fitted, should you be able to select reverse? jackherer 543 Posted September 20, 2008 BX 16v BE1 boxes dont have a lift up reverse cable when fitted in the BX, you need to remove the breather and the 205 cable fits there perfectly. Once you fit the cable it will be impossible to select reverse unless the cable is pulled. It has a piece on the end of it which physically locks reverse out. I haven't yet managed to get to the car :-/ Yesterday I worked till late at night to fix its rad, hoses and wiring and today I'm at work, while my brother wen't to have the exhaust fitted.... dcc 855 Posted September 20, 2008 I have the same engine/gearbox combo as you, i've come accross this, and it really was a simple change between the breather and the existing cable for the lift up reverse. (if you dont put the cable in, its hard to find 5th, or atleast i was for me, but once fitted the cable, the gearbox became alot smoother and 5th was easy to get into). the only issue i have now, is my reverse light doesnt work ;'< need to find where the reverse sensor is and link up a cable to it i think. ifcho 0 Posted September 20, 2008 (edited) well, this engine came with a really crappy loom....I don't know what car it is from but with the computer in the original 205 gti position I have one thick bundle of cables going front, a relay loom separating near the left headlamp, then under the manifold, at the middle of the manifold a sensor loom comes apart, on which there is a plug for the reverse..but I cut off all these wires, as they were really messy...will make a separate sensor loom It's not that difficult, on my other 205, I replaced all wires with my custom looms..much nicer, even though I don't have many colours Edited September 20, 2008 by ifcho Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
