No Spark After Engine Swop

Recommended Posts

Guest Coltweed

Hi I'm having problems with getting a spark after swopping the engine in a 1.6 phase 1.5 GTI, to another 1.6 engine (out of a phase 2) Using the larger bosch coil on p/s of engine bay, tho donor engine used the one on top of the inlet manifold.

Engine was running before the swop although a piston had gone through the side of the block! Looked like a bearing had seized to the conrod and forced it through the block. But doubt thats anything to do with it, just a bit of background info

I've tried all the usual things, and nothing seems to be getting a spark. Changed over ignition module, tochmetric relay, coil (new one), distributer cap, rotor arm, distributer, cable from distributor to ignition amp, everything I can think of!

Just wondering if there is any other sensors that would stop the spark being produced??

Any ideas or help gratefully accepted!!

welcome to the forum.

Have you checked the usual things such as voltage at the coil live, a good earth between engine and chassis and that all fuses are intact?

hi, yeah have checked coil voltage, and fuses, need to take a look at earths again altho everything that was removed has been replaced as far as I can see.

Also checked that connector that goes from the dizzy lead to the ignition module, swopped everything with one I knew was working, but still no joy :)

Does the tochymetric relay control anything at the coil, or just voltage from it?

Have tried swopping coil but still no joy, does anyone have info on the wires connected to it? there are two red that we've connected to the +ve and the other 2 to the -ve side.

Thanks for the suggestions btw!
