Fitting New Rear Quarter Window Seals

Recommended Posts

kenp

After bitting the bullet and coughing up for a new rear quarter window seal from Peugeot, and then having fun figuring out what the right colour was (Dark Anthracite for a Phase 1.5 GTi for the record) I finally took the right one home and tried to fit it.

However it appears too big, either it's me or the tolerance on the new one is way out. Before I go back to Peugeot (again) I thought I'd ask if anyone else has had this problem and if there is a knack to fitting it. I made sure it was pushed in tight to all the corners and edges but it just seems to big to fit the last few inches.

Help!

They are all like that, you have to push it on and slowly work round the window pushing it together in the oposite direction if you know what i mean? i used a rubber mallet but once on it all fits nicely

I've not fitted many 205 rubbers, but I've done hundreds on other cars. I tend to get the four corners in first, and work from there. If you start at one end and work your way around, you end up with all the excess in one place, if you start in the corners you have less excess shared around the four sides, so it's easier to get rid of (if you follow my meaning).

A rubber mallet is your friend here, to make sure it's all fully seated, or even better a soft headed, lead shot filled dead blow hammer like the one I use.

the seals on my GTi dont even fit the gap anymore, seems strange new ones are too big only for them to shrink so much.
