stef205 92 1 Cars Posted September 16, 2008 hi, i have a misfire on my 205, From cold it doesnt miss a beat but once up to temp and then its switched off after leaving it for a good 10mins it misfires, and then dies and cant be started till its cold. I have replaced plugs, leads, cap, rotor, afm, ignition amp, coil, ecu temp sensor. I am now clue less on what it can be. I am wondering now if it could be fuel, i do know that my fuel filter hasnt been changed in ages. Can anyone help me? thanks stefan
DamirGTI 342 Posted September 16, 2008 Tried with some known good spare fuel pump relay ? (tachymetric relay) Also did you re-apply the thermal transfer paste at the back of the new ignition amp prior to refitting ? if not it'll start to overheat and will cause misfiring/hesitating ... it can burn out also as a result of overheating Rgs ! stef205 92 1 Cars Posted September 16, 2008 no i didnt re apply the paste as i got it from a working 205, the fuel pump relay doesnt get hot. Can i buy this paste? I have just cleaned the idel screw and inlet body with wd40 and its abit better. I am also getting abit on oil in there thanks
DamirGTI 342 Posted September 16, 2008 (edited) Yes you can source it from any computer shop or your local car part store should stock one .. Anyway CPU paste will do just fine , if you decide to buy one from the car part store ask for - heat transfer compound (usually silicone based ..) it'll be paste in the small tube of 10grams or transparent jelly in little pvc bags of say 2grams each .. Well i doubt that it's the idle screw which makes this problem especially if it's temp. sensitive (goes bad when the engine reaches operating temp ..) , no seriously , even if it doesn't get hot try with some other , known good fuel pump relay , as it could also be the cause of this problem .. could be dying diode inside the relay i had this few times , the last time i've had problems with fuel pump relay was this year in the middle of my trip to the new year eve/party , when the relay decided to caught on fire - literally leaving me in the middle of nowhere covered with disgusting white fume .. luckily i've had a spare relay - hooked it up an off i go , with a bit bad/unusual kind of "perfume" on my clothes but never mind Damir Edited September 16, 2008 by DamirGTI
stef205 92 1 Cars Posted September 17, 2008 ok, yesterday i took the afm off and put the old one back on and sprayed wd40 through it and unscrewed the big brass idel screw and cleaned that with wd40. It ran all day fault less, but untill now and its started doing it all over again.
