DrSarty 90 1 Cars Posted September 14, 2008 (edited) I suspect you could get one from the forum (straight off an engine, ie unworked) for less than £100. But the issue is weight and getting it to where you are. I can't imagine many circumstances though when a head would be a total write off; so for £50 or so you could take it to an engine builder who could pressure test and reskim it if it's good. Near where I lived (Bucks) was even a mobile head specialist with all the equipment in the van. Other head probs - which can all be fixed - are the replaceables likes valves, valve guides, springs, collets & lifters, even cams & pulleys. Even a damaged spark plug thread (fixed by helicoiling) or a damaged mating face can be repaired. DON'T FORGET TO PUT THE HEAD BOLT SPACERS IN ON REBUILD OR YOU'LL CRACK THE BLOCK! Bar the head being cracked due to heat or physically being FUBAR'd due to being dropped, I can't imagine there's anything really wrong with your Mi head that can't be fixed over a few cups of tea on a weekend. Ask again if you need any help, but I think it's worth the gamble based on what I've written. Edited September 14, 2008 by DrSarty
Jean_quemener 0 Posted September 14, 2008 thanks fo the reply just rang the guy now and i think what he was trying to say is that the head is quite corroded and that ether it need skimming or you couldnt skim the hea cause you would take to much, if this was the case then the head could be built up then skimmed rite? so if this head can be skimmed or rebuilt then skimmed then i would be looking a a price range of say 100 150 for the work ? DrSarty 90 1 Cars Posted September 14, 2008 If it's already had too much taken off, that's it, it's reached the end of its life.
gazzamec 0 Posted September 15, 2008 If it's already had too much taken off, that's it, it's reached the end of its life. ferriday engineering will make a custom alloy spacer that can combat this, however the price is 3 figures from what i recall
