A Quick Question Or 2 For Somebody Who Would Know!

Recommended Posts

My mi project is moving along now a bit better...

The gearbox I have, was thought to be a BE3, however, when I tried to find reverse it was not where I would expect (below 5th) but it was next to first. Does this mean its a BE1 box? It's the box which came with the mi engine which is assumed from a bx not a 405 (I do not think this would make any difference, but just for you to know).

The conversion has used the dizzy adapter, which means that I have a bypass from the air intake pipe direct to the air inlet. This has no restriction on the air flow, and causes the engine to rev higher than idle, upto 2500rpm from 900 or there abouts. If I blank this pipe totally, will it effect the performance of the engine at all?

last thing is I want to run the engine with some agressive cams, I dont know a huge amount when it comes to this, so any opinions for which cams to use and why would be great.

Thanks all!

Dan.

Reverse next to first means it's a BE1. However - all Mi16 gearboxes (BE1 and BE3) have a BE3 clutch mechanism, so it's really halfway between the two.

You need to conenct the SAD to where the ICV used to be,

For upgrades use the Mi16 loom as with the 8v stuff you loose both BHP and Torque + MPG too. Cam's on the 8v Jetronic with the 16v engine will not make the most of them
