Lan 24 1 Cars Posted September 13, 2008 ok so yeh as title says really i put the car into reverse and it doesnt come on the bulb is fine and using my light bulb test rig ive come to the conclusion that there is no power getting to the bulb, so i was wondering if anyone knows about the switch to turn the reverse light on where is it?? DrSarty 90 1 Cars Posted September 13, 2008 Stand slightly right of centre and look down onto the gearbox. The clutch lever will be visible and either fwd or back of that will be the reverse light switch on top of the gearbox. I'd have someone at the back while you try 3 things with the ignition turned on. 1) Wiggle the gearstick once in reverse or pull it back further to see if it's a mechanical fault either in the gearbox (unlikely) or the switch. Does the light come on? 2) Check the connection to the reverse light switch which could be one of two types of plug, both of which can get filled with gung. WD40 and an old toothbrush might fix this. Lights on yet? 3) Check the wiring further down the line to see if something in the bay has damaged it. Also you can use your circuit tester on continuity to touch on of the wires in the plug (with ign on and gear lever in rev of course) to earth to see if you have a circuit. Only one will light it as the other goes to the light cluster. If you have power it's just a replacement switch you need. To replace the switch just unscrew it and replace. I suspect any 205 rev light switch'll do it.
jimistdt 1 Posted September 13, 2008 Might also be worth checking the condition of the contact in the light fitment, due to their location they can become a cruddy mess. Any corrosion on there will prevent the lightbulb working. A scrape with a small screwdriver normally does the trick. Jimi
CaptainP 2 Posted September 13, 2008 The chances are the plunger on the reversing switch is at fault. However if you do need to replace the switch there are 2 types (one for the BE1 gearbox & one for the BE3) if you're unsure which type you have take the switch with you to the motor factors. About £7 when I replaced mine earlier in the year.
