S16 And Mi16 Engines

Recommended Posts

Guest JeffJeffers

Hi

I have tried to search but with no luck in fact I have sat all morning at work searching so I guess I'll have to do some work this afternoon.

Anyway, is the S16 engine better than an MI16 as I have the chance to buy ether for the same amount of money.

or is the it worth spending a few more hundred pounds and getting the GTI-6?

S16 is the same as the Mi16, iron block that is.

Both have their merits, having built (and being very satisfied with) an Mi16, id go GTI-6 next.

Its strikes me as a nicer engine, no surge issues, good power out of the box.

Mi16 vs. S16 is as Mei has said, alloy block vs. cast block respectively, minor changes to the head too, but are interchangeable. S16 uses a rather dodgy (in my opinion :) ) intake system and inlet manifold.

S16 is probably easier to get into a 205 as with careful selection of engine mounts virtually drops in, mates to standard downpipe too. Bit harder to wire perhaps.

Mi16 will require either a purpose built exhaust manifold or angle plate or bulkhead mods for clearance. Obviously requires wiring mods, but neither are hard from this point of view in my opinion.

Its an age old argument mate, and there is a wealth of information on here regarding both conversions to be honest.

gti6 every time for me

If the mi16 aint had a rebuild recently or come with any history steer clear, it'll end up costing more than if you bought the 6 engine in the first place

My 1.6 GTI engine is on its last legs. so I'll probably go for the S16 then cause it has a few less miles on it.

Then I'll get saving for a GTI-6 engine. :)

just go the whole hog and get the 6 engine, you know you want to.

You can get the whole car for that if its been in a smash, then you get the brakes and shockers as well. Sell the other parts to pay for your conversion

I go collect my S16 engine in a couple of weeks.

Thanks mrswampy.

Does that mean I can use your car for an ECU unlock?

That just means it's a very early L or M reg car, I've killed 3 of them now, I do feel bad abotu it if it makes you feel any better.

I've got an unlocked s16 ecu in the garage if needed I have no use for it.

Good engines for 205s, have fun.
