309PUG 2 1 Cars Posted September 9, 2008 would this be possible??? Don't see why not if heated up and you were not trying to bend it in half Chris
VisaGTi16v 1 Posted September 9, 2008 I mentioned this subject to the bloke that runs our engineering sister company. The problem is that its sprung steel and whether it will retain its same spring characteristics once cooled down, he didnt know and I havent looked into it any further. I will do at some point as I may want a different ARB for the back of the Visa which is totally different to a 205 and has some bends
tom_m 0 Posted September 9, 2008 try without it and some higher poundage springs spiky, it should have a similar effect, and turn in might be improved.
gti_al 1 Posted September 9, 2008 How does that work? I disconnected mine and can't believe how much more grip and composure the front end has... it is rolling a bit, but feels more controlled Do many other people not use it? I want to leave it like this but haven't had a proper run in it yet to see what happens. It seems to have brought the rear into play more, but that makes sense if the front is gripping better

tom_m 0 Posted September 9, 2008 i run 300lbs how much more you think i may need? depends on your tyres i guess, i've not got the experience to say for sure... suck it and see, you can always put it back if you don't like it.
Anthony 1,003 Posted September 9, 2008 Give it a go - after all, it's easy enough to remove one of the droplinks (effectively giving you no front ARB). If you don't like the way it handles afterwards, just refit the droplink and volia, you've an ARB again. With 300lb front springs and a standard 309 GTi beam, I'd have thought that the front should be plenty stiff enough to not run an ARB.
VisaGTi16v 1 Posted September 9, 2008 Spiky: See my reply on your shocks thread, 400lbs's is common for the 205 circuit racers I have spoken to but I wouldnt go quite that high if you drive on the road or airfields! The problem with antiroll bars, using the front as an example, when the car leans over in a corner, the arb is effectively lifting weight off the inside wheel and working against its spring. Ok this may stop it leaning quite so much but you will lose traction on that inside wheel. Remove the arb and you gain traction at the expense of greater leaning. Of course you can get round this by stiffening up the springs but you need to stiffen up the rear more as its the undriven end, do the front alone and it will just understeer. Theres a comprimise with every setup, even more so if you need to drive on the road as well
