Replacement Seat Belt Jamed

Recommended Posts

Subby

Hi,

I have just bought a replacement seat belt as mine has been bodged where the stitching is.

Although ive got it home and its managed to wind up and wont pull out for love nor money.

Although it did randomly once when i was at the scrap yard so i thought it would be ok.

Anyone had any experience of this, or is it fubared?

I'm fairly sure they lock out when they've been reeled in all the way unfortunately...hopefully someone will know a trick but in my experience it's new belt time.

Its something simple that frees them off, I think they just need to be held at the right angle or something, I dont remember right now.

Yeah they lock up when wound up, it's best to tie a knot in them first. I remember reading the remedy a while ago, but cant remember for the life of me what it was :( I seem to remember that it was a bit more involved than just having a knack to it, unfortunately.

I think Steve Cornwall knows the answer to this, something like remove a cover and push a plastic clip, but I don't know the specifics.

There's a plastic clip under one of the covers which gets engaged that you need to release, careful though as the other cover has the spring under it and that can quite easily take your eye out or cut very deeply if released.

When I got some new belts from the breakers I did the same thing, When I took them to my local mechanic to fit them he had kneel on them to get it to release......dont ask me how but thats what he said :) and they have to be at the right angle....exactly.

Yeah, i had some that i swapped on my 1st 205 that had reeled all the way in, and they had to be put at a certain angle before they could be pulled out!

Agreed - bolt it into the car and try it again, and it'll likely work just fine. Had this on numerous seatbelts.

yea i might try bolting it in first. I would prefer that than taking it apart.
