New Throttle Body Different To Old?

Recommended Posts

nick9one1

Just bought a throttle body to replace my old one which had a snapped breather pipe. The new one seems to have one less breather pipe underneath? Is this a 1.6/1.9 difference? or mk1/mk2? I'm not sure what car the new one came from but mine is a 1990 1.9

old, note Ive sealed up the broken pipe with gasket sealant.

new, has the pipe that broke off the old body, but seems to be missing another?

There are at least two different throttle bodies but the pipe that had broken off on your old throttle body isn't needed imo.

I've run my car without those two pipes on the underneasth of the throttle body for several years now. Just run the pipe from the thermostat housing directly back to the expansion tank.

BTW, where does the pipe thats still fitted to you old TB go to? It shouldn't do anything, that offtake on the TB is blocked up.

Graham.

As Graham's said, I never use the TB heater as in the UK it rarely get's that cold unless I guess your in Scotland,

If the water pipe was fitted as shown in the top pic how was the water temp?

so the two pipes shaped like a V are the TB heater, and the extra one on my old TB is for coolant? so assuming the coolant enters the TB where the pipe is connected, where does it go from there?

Im not sure about the water temp, as the car had a manual rad fan switch and the temp gauge was broken! although it never overheated.

No, The 'V' ones let the coolant flow thru it and the other one does nothing in the UK and is never connected to anything, If the 'V' part is connected the hose goes from there to the top of the Stat housing
