Yes its been done 100s of times, or check out demon tweeks or Peter Lloyd rallying.

I adapted my original subframe to fit my buckets , it worked fine, however the 205 subframes have some play in them , allowing the seat to rock a little. I am going to fork out on some proper side mounts for mine when i get around to it .

It doesn't sound like a safe option, after all, in a collision thats whats going to hold you in place.

I got proper ones for my 205 from demon tweeks. After seeing how simple they are, i had a 106 as a runaround and managed to get some rover coupe seats for free, i decided to make subframes, i just bought some thick strips of steel, then made a frame so they bolt to the car, then make some strips to attach to the seats, then place everything together, mark where you want them and get welding.

205 subfarmes are very bad and they rock all over the place, depends what the cra is for but best to weld steel tube in between tunnel and sills and bolt down to that, but then they will be fixed

well i had a look yesterday and heres my plan......

im using quarter inch steel bar strips which im going to drill to the original holes for the standard seats, and bolt the strips across. i have the sliders for the seats which i am then going to bolt to the strips. its simple but safe, i wont weld them because welding can weaken the steel, and doing this DIY could be disastress!! the professional ones are welded and then galvanised to give extra strenght nd so they dont corrode...

i chose not to use the origional frames as the steel use is weak! i could almost bend it with my hands!! :P

Hi mate,

Just to give you a little insight into what I did with my buckets....

I have the sparco sprints, floor mounted and pretty much the best/cheapest bucket you can buy IMO. They are for the smaller driver for sure but I love em nonetheless.

I too wanted to do away with the standard subframes however I certainly needed to keep the sliders to move the seat allowing me to get in and out. Reason being is because my short arse legs cant reach full depression of the clutch with the seat far enough back so my gut clears the steering wheel. :D

I always planned on fitting a snap off steering wheel, so decided to mount the buckets to the original frames and runners for now, allowing me the adjustment...get my snap off boss fitted, then whip the seats back out and weld them into place using tubes. This way I can keep the seat in my desired position and simply remove the steering wheel to get my arse out :)

I realise this seems like twice as much work but if you ask me, your driving position is very important, so I wouldnt rush mounting it all squiff etc.

Good Luck either way,

Leigh
