Bilstein Streetline Front Shocker Query

Recommended Posts

allanallen

ive just swapped the springs on my 205 and noticed the front shocks are different to each other  the tag that stops the body going into the hub is positioned approx. 10mm higher up the body on the nearside shock, this allows the nearside of the car to sit lower than the drivers side. Is this normal?? is it to allow for the car being heavier at the drivers side?? or have i got some rejects

the shocks are bilstein VNE-4104 (nearside)

VNE-4105 (offside)

cheers al

AFAIK they should be at the same height up the shock body but its not something I've ever measured.

The important measurement will be above from the stoptab to the spring pan anyway which sets the ride height not the distance its sat through the hub imo.

Graham.

cheers buddy, managed to speak to a guy a bilstein today and he sounded a little concerned about my problem  . He thinks its possibly a manufacturing error but hes gonna pull some drawings out to double check and then get back to me on monday.

another question though, I have a set of old bilstein grpn rear shocks (rubber booted ones) and it appears they are an odd pair, they have different part no.s and one is much firmer than the other :( i was told they were gravel spec ones when i bought them but i rekon one is a gravel and the other a tarmac. anyhow, can these be re-valved and if so what spec sould i have them valved to for fast road use (standard bars and 22mm arb)

cheers al
