A Few Mi16 Rebuild Questions

Recommended Posts

Hiya guys

Been away for a while but i'm slowly getting there with the engine. Nearly finished rebuilding the bottom end. Just need to bolt the oil pump back on and the sump.

Which brings me onto my first question.

Where the oil pump sprocket goes onto the crank there are 2 notches on the crank. This is where these winchester nuts go.

Now when i was dismanteling my engine i only noticed 1 winchester nut. Should i have 2?

The other question is about the head.

I can't remember which side the cam brackets count from, is from the fly wheel or from the timing side?

Thanks in advance

Sorry guys

I ment to say the woodruff keys not winchester :)

Looking in Haynes it looks like they only remove 1 too. But just want to check on here.

Thanks

Only had the one key in mine.

My crank also has 2 notches.

Only the one will be going back in.

is your oil pump sprocket keyed?

as far as I know only the XU5 and XU7's use a keyed oil pump sprocket

Only friction from pulley bolt keeps the oil pump sprocket where it's supposed to be on mine.

Seems odd that they didn't put a key in there for good measure.

I will be ensuring it's correctly torqued when it goes back together for sure!

Xu10 sprocket isn't keyed either (as that's what's' going in mine)
