Seized rear trailing arms are a very common 205 GTI fault now that even the youngest cars are 15 years old. Really you need to strip the beam to inspect it, expect to find that the bearings inside the beam tube are rusted away to nothing, and the shafts on the trailing arms are badly worn/corroded away. If you are fortunate the beam tube itself will be OK and you will then be able to rebuild the beam with new bearings, seals and arm shafts.

If you are reasonably handy then you should be able to do most of it yourself, although you will need a press to install new arm shafts into the trailing arms. Alternatively the other option is to buy a second hand or rebuilt beam; the second hand option will be cheaper but is a lottery as to the condition, the rebuilt beam guarantees it is good, but will cost a lot more.

To get the entire thing off the car is straightforward, however dismantling it further is not so easy. Have a look on the main 205drivers site as I am sure there is a good guide on there.

The rear beam lowering guide on the main 205gtidrivers site helped me alot when i took my beam off so might be worth looking at that.

I've posted a better guide than that before in my replies on here using the Peugeot Sport factory approved method not the spline method from that article.

I have a new article nearing completion for putting on the website when its done.

Graham.
