Gti6 Conversion Tips

Recommended Posts

soap.mactavish

Hi all

I have just got a complete gti6 engine and box to put in my 205

but thinking of using an old 1.6 g/box I have kicking around with it now so I keep a good s/lock

but not sure on the fuelling, would it be a good idea to go down the bike tb rout as

I’m not willing to pay £1500 for Jenvey throttle bodies.

any other ideas?

Try and get an unlocked ecu and loom for the 6, even a locked ecu plus unlocking feee will be loads cheaper.

does any one have a list of none 205 gti /306 gti6 bits I will need for the convertion?

i`v done plenty of 309 1.9 whole front ends into 1.6 205 and mi`s swaps in my time but never a gti6.

I`ll try and get a step by step gide on hear as i do it or mayby after if only its a two day`er .

but i`ve had them qwik 10 min jobs before that end up taking all day (I think most of you know what i mean!)

going to start it later this week so we will see...

1 re angle the exhaust manifold

2 find a shorter belt so you can by pass the air con pump and power steering

3 find a way of making the 205 water pipe fit the 306 (that little box thing with all the sensors) you can buy an adapter from BBM

4 fit an MI16 1.9 clutch if your wanting to fit a 205 gear box

im still waiting to find out about the wiring as im just getting all my bits together ready to start in a weeks time

Thanks for that, I did not know about the water pipe

not 100% till I get it in, but I think the gti-6 exhaust manifold does not need to be reangled .but just the 205 down pipe (easy job) ( the mi does have too, so it clears the bulkhead but gti-6 misses)

Thats impressively optimistic but sadly you have no chance.

Deffinatly. Got it completely wrong.

205 Down pipe needs shortening and the 6 manifold needs to bereangled.

Theres loads of threads on this conversion from the last 12 months. Soon to be as popular as the old Mi16 oil surge debate...

Get a Mi bottom end, you won't have to re-angle the mani then. :P

As for the hose, get an ally connector and use half 6 hose and half 205, then you won't have to pay the £extortionate for an adaptor.

bugger!! :P

I was banking on not having to mess with that nice work of art that is the gti-6 manifold

where can I get a ally connector from??

If its the conector you have removed in the Pic, Bakers Bushes and Mounts sell them, and allow you to use the Std 205 top hose. i have one on order ATM think, he is stew205 on here.
