MrG 3 Posted August 31, 2008 Sort of getting my head around the spec of my engine that is used purely for track days (and the odd run to and from work and to give me a smile every now and again). Apart from baffling the sump, the bottom end will be std (unless there's other things I can do whilst its apart. i.e oil pump etc) so will be concentrating on the head. What is the best things to do to this? Is it worthwhile having it ported/flowed etc? What catcam are you running and how does this fare on your outings on the track? I'll be running 45's when its back together. Cheers all, I'll be talking to the garage that will be doing this mid week. Andrew
platty 1 Posted August 31, 2008 Apart from baffling the sump Good to meet you on Saturday Andrew. Did you pull the Sump off? Which engine? 1.9 8v
MrG 3 Posted August 31, 2008 cheers Mark, I now have an oily boot! But a good steaming will sort it all out. no not yet, my wifes hurt her arm so decided to leave it in the car. Yep 1.9 8v it is.
Baz 421 Posted August 31, 2008 Would be rude not to bung on a 1.6 flywheel. Xu10 oil pump spring, could go on... PeterT extended pick up etc... although probably not that needed for an 8v tbh. Clean up the ports at the least and check the inlet matches etc. Cam depending on what you're running, std inlet or carbs etc? I have a spare Piper 270 atm... If it's all going to be apart then may be worth looking into having the bottom end lightened/balanced?
MrG 3 Posted September 1, 2008 as ever Baz its down to costs! I'm seeing them tonight so will see what we can arrange.
James_R 3 Posted September 1, 2008 Think the answer would be the biggest cam on std springs to keep costs lower. could get a flowed head but thats then ££££
edbar 6 Posted September 1, 2008 I would personally get the head seen to, they are terrible as standard!
welshpug 1,677 Posted September 1, 2008 I would personally get the head seen to, they are terrible as standard! really?!
edbar 6 Posted September 1, 2008 Yes the short side radius is crap, Valve throats have a step in them and there is a bottle neck in the ports. Do you not agree? Just think that you can add a cam at a later date and get the full benefit.
