Rear Ride Height?

What is the general concensus on rear ride height?

 

I have removed all the rear seats, belts, trim etc and now the car seems jacked up after the removal of the weight.

 

I will be doing some track work and maybe 2/3k miles a year on the road but dont want it scraping on the floor.

I have just stripped the back down and cleaned/WD'd all the retaining bolts etc to lower the car tommorow after fitting new bearings/brakes and cables.

 

At the minute it seems to have a gap of 80/90mm (aprox) from the top of the tyre to the bottom of the plastic arch at the centre line of the arch.

Will i need to drop it 2 splines?.

I will also be fitting black bilsteins to the back.

 

Any help will be appreciated :(

Don't lower it by splines, this really limits your choice of ride height.

 

Extract the torsion bars both ends, there are a different no of splines on each end. By setting the trailing arm you can then move the torsion bar round to seat home, and achieve virtually any ride height change you wish.

also, DONT fit the black Bilsteins as they aren't up to the task of damping the gti!

 

fit Original Peugeot dampers (Part number 5206 K6) or Bilstein yellow dampers.

ahh, i was trying to keep the cost down.Anyone know the price of the yellows?

 

dont forget i am a newbie so i dont even know best suppliers etc YET :(

Standard 205 GTi is approximately 322-325mm between shock bolt centers (with the shocks removed at atleast one end)

Yellows IIRC are about £100 a pair, Peugeot originals £70 ish a pair

 

Miles on here can supply the Bilstein Yellow dampers.

More like £200 WP, on the bay anyway. My black ones were a pointless purchase! never even fitted them.....

i will see how the standards feel when i take them off, it maybe just throwing money at it for no reason yet?

For a car a bit lower without being daft try 315mm centres. However once it has been apart once, it wil come apart much more easily the second time if you decide you don't like the ride height and want to alter it.

If you look in the group buy section you will see I make and sell a tool to help with getting the torsion bars out.
