Tyre Choice?

Recommended Posts

WooDooUK

Im a big fan of the T1-S/T1-R Proxes Very good tyre come rain or shine,

I have also tried the Spec2 Parada's look nice but feels as if the car moves around a lot more in the dry, and are a bit pants in the wet.

IMHO

Thing with toyo T1-r is that they use a soft tread compound to get the grip. This works great in the wet (I realy like toyo tyres for wet weather, I have them at the moment) but they overheat quickly and don't last long if used hard in the dry. Mine are half worn at rear and just above legal limit at front in just 6000 miles of road use.

I would like to try PE2's as I think they use a harder compound and rely on quality carcass engineering to get the desired performance. Probably explains why they lack traction in the wet but I bet they feel good and don't melt when driven hard in the dry. And on damp roads will probably work well once some heat is into them.

Every autocar etc tyre review ive read over the last few years always had the F1 GSD3 as the best rain tyre and I got first hand experience of that today with mine at a torrentially wet Brands for a track day, outrageous grip compared to other tyres ive used with only the slightest issues with the many rivers that run across the circuit (how can they not fix that!!) whereas all my friends were having serious aqua planing issues! They dont like dry track days or sprints too much as the tread washes across but for all round road use they would be a great choice although being outphased for the new Asymetric model

cheers for that, i think i may go for the TR-1's, as regard to how quick i will go, who knows!! but i dont reckon i'll be in the R888 league of speed!!

I have been looking at the Federal 595RS, a direct competitor of the R888. They are selling them at Camskill at the mo for £59 each. Apparently very sticky but very stable when been driven hard. I just want to know what wet weather performance is like and I may be tempted to take a set down the lanes.

I would like to hear views on them too as theres not much competition for the Toyos at their price. I'm soooo tempted to try R888's on the road, interesting that Renault spec them for the Megane R26.R (anyone read latest EVO?)
