Recommended Posts

after coming back from holiday i've found a couple of problems with my 205 1.9 gti. My first problem i have a knocking noise coming from the passenger side of the engine bay. The noise stops when i depress the clutch. i also have a small oil leak. it look's like its coming from the front of the block.

Check the axle shaft and wheel alingement for knocking noise. Better show it to a garage.

Oil leak can be from any where from the engine. To trace it. Investige under the engine. If you can not find anything you need the wash the engine drive for a while and chech for ne leaks.

Could the passenger side noise be the clutch release bearing after being stood for a while? Had a similar problem with my old focus, just turned the radio up!

I would go with the clutch release bearing if it goes when you press the clutch, are you driving when you hear the noise or stood stilll?

a wild guess but possibly the 5th gear nut has come loose in the end of the gearbox.

Oil leak likely to be the pipe from oil filler to bottom of block.

As above, wash engine down with degreaser and power wash off, then have a good look when its been run for abit.

The oil filler pipe could need a new clip on where it fits onto block,or could be perished/split just above the starter.
