Ben_M 1 Posted August 26, 2008 Managed to fit a citroen Xzara vts engine into my 1.6 205 gti. everything is connected and the cars is now up and running, the first problem is that the engine will only run for a little time at idle speed when the engine is cold ! the only way the engine will run is by holding the throttle open. until the engine is up to about 60 deg. on the water temp. then the engine will run fine. I can only guess one of the sensors is faulty?? cold start ?? The engine is running a 306 rally wiring loom. if that helps! The final problem is to do with the brake master cylinder which is still the original 205 1.6 gti 2 port which has a 19mm internal bore, as i'm now running the citroen xzara brakes with a 57mm piston the brake pedal is nearly on the bulk head to stop the car! reading on other posts it seems that the 406 master cylinder is the way to go, for raising the pedal. Will any 406 master cylinder do or is there a certain model it should be taken from? or is there a better master cylinder to fit than this? I'm really after a two port master cylinder as the original 1.6 205 master cylinder is 2 port and i'm still running drums on the rear.
Peetypug 5 Posted August 26, 2008 the master cylinder i'm using is from the 406 without abs. Dont know if it will be correct for you as mine is a 1.
Spiky 37 Posted August 27, 2008 23m MC you need pre 98 406 non abs model not sure the idle, could be your missing some plugs as you have a"rally" loom?
gti-si 0 Posted August 27, 2008 Is the ICV plugged in? Sounds like it's in a set position, hence it's fine when warmed up.
Stu 18 Posted August 27, 2008 Either that or the temp sender is goosed and the ECU thinks the car is up to temp all the time, and hence lacks the cold start enrichment?

This is what i was thinking at the car tries to idle at the normal idle speed when cold.
