R1 Cab Float Level

Recommended Posts

Hi guys,

Just a quick question, but has anyone had to modify the float level in the R1 carb setup on a 1.9 engine with a Bogg Bro's manifold.

I did, but I didn't have a Bogg manifold. Well, I didn't really have to as it worked just fine, but I did it anyway while setting them up.

If you dont mind the little hijack how do you adjust the float level? one of mine is leaking inslide slightly and i think its because the fload it set to high,

It's probably not down to the float level, I'd say it would be a leaking needle valve. The valve should be able to hold the fuel pressure out so a slight leak would mean your float bowl fills up and pushes fuel out of the jets. This happened to mine when I first fitted them. A way to check is to remove the carbs, empty them, then hold them upside-down and blow into the fuel feed pipe (seriously). If a valve is leaking then it won't hold pressure. If you keep blowing in, then tilt the carbs back towards upright then you should feel the valves open and the pressure will drop.

Anyway, if you want to check the float level you need a bit of clear hose, attach it to the little spout on the bottom of the float bowl and undo the drain screw (my memory is a bit hazy tbh, but it should make sense when you look at it). Hold the hose up so it's a U-shape and run the engine. The float level will be the level of the fuel in the hose and there should be a mark on the body of the carbs that it lines up with.

Thanks guys for all your reply's.

I managed to get hold off Bogg Bro's in the end and they advised that the float shouldnt need to be changed.

Its a matter of just changing the jets, fuel pressure and a rolling road to fine tune the carbs.
