I like the peugeot specialist tool to keep the liners in place. I have the same one too . I see your gearbox in the pic too. Did it need any attention internally or was it all ok gear wise before you stripped the car bar your clutch for and bushes?

 

Yeah, random bit of steel to hold the first two down and then big washers and nuts for the other two, who needs peugot specialist tools!

 

It seemed to go through the gears alright to me when I drove it the few miles up the road so I just changed the speedo drive seals, primary shaft bearing & seals, clutch fork & bushes and the driveshaft seals, i've a new clutch too. Then I cleaned it up and painted it mate, i'm hopin it will still drive fine when I put it back in the car!

 

It feels great to get something done for a change!

Been busy working at this at the weekend lately.

 

Done some painting, my dad mixed me up some satin black to piant up all the suspension parts he sandblasted and primed for me months ago. So I gave them a rub down, hung them from the garage on wire and did some novice spraying:

 

 

Not bad for an amateur sprayer!

 

So that meant with the subframe painted I could build it up, started doing this last night:

 

 

Building up this stuff with all the zinc coated bolts and new parts etc. is the bit i've been waiting for!

 

So I built up the bilstein suspension too with new top bearings, bbm donuts and zinc coated platforms:

 

 

Got more parts from peugeot too:

 

 

New brake fluid reservoir and seals, servo hose, brake light switch (I stood on the other one and broke it! ), intermediate driveshaft bearing & bush and few other bits.

Also, after bringing so many parts down home they were lying all over the garage floor, so decided to build myself some shelving for all the gti parts on saturday morning!

 

 

Got the head bolt spacer I needed today (cheers Miles) so the head can be bolted on and timing belt etc fitted and that will be the engine sitting ready to go in to the shell

 

After the engines built I want to get the rear beam built up, need my dad to blast the tube, torsion bars and other parts, than i'll paint them up.

 

Also, finally finished wire brushing the underseal out of the arches and engine bay and removed all the pipe clips etc from underneath. So thats all I can do with the shell, the Easter holidays is looking VERY promising for getting the shell painted up so watch this space!

You're really starting to sicken me with the level of dedication that's going into this car Chris!

 

I really hope neither my Miami or Cherry every read this thread otherwise they'll up sticks and migrate to Ballygowan.

 

Keep it up, it really will be fantastic to see it when it's all finished. A Portrush blast in the Summer?

Heads back on!

 

Got my brother to give me a hand to torque up the head bolts. Used the haynes method of 60Nm, slacken, 20Nm, 300degrees. Putting that 300degrees on gave me the sweats, that is tight!!

 

After spending all that time and money sorting the engine torquing those bolts up scared me a bit!

 

Started trying to time it up and fit the belt but eventually gave up after a bit of head scratching, I'll get my brother to give me a hand to do it because it will probably take him half the time it would take me

I tried to fit a brand new belt, engine in the car, which wouldn't fit, (at all), after a couple of hours, lots of swearing and many cuts later i decided to put the old belt back on and leave it.

jealous 205 owners must mean i'm doing a good job with this restoration stuff then!

 

not much progress to report mate, very busy at work, had to work the easter holidays but i'm getting a few days off work next week to spend on the 205 shell up at my dads.

 

hoping to do the sandblasting, welding and repair the dents and get the primer on it and give my dad a kick up the arse to get this painted and back into my garage to rebuild it!

 

Still gathering parts though when I can afford it, got the last lot of stuff back from the zinc coater the other day (stuff like power steering pipes, brackets and bolts), they look as good as the last lot..would look better on the car!

 

Did you get your rear beam sorted out and finished in the end mate?

well its still lying beside the car lol. Next step is to get the torsion bars freed up, so i might have to call up for that puller thingy. Did you say yous was broke?

 

Ive been replacing the brake lines cos mine were clean gone, and just sorta futtering about at it. Just cant seem to get the time now to make any progress on it lol

No my puller's not broke, I did break it but i've got a replacement stud from Tom so its fine now. I have one of those dummy shocks too

 

If you give me a shout i'll call up and give you a hand sometime if you want mate, not that i'm much use with beams yet, I haven't rebuilt my own but will be soon so I have a rough idea what i'm at! The guide on here is good, if yiou haven't already then check it out.
