GLPoomobile 958 Posted August 24, 2008 I've fitted a smaller 106 GTI fuel filter in the standard location. It's fitted as low down as the bracket will allow, but, since the filter has tails as opposed to the original filter's banjo connections, the hose now goes vertically up and needs to make a tight 90 degree bend to come back to the fuel rail. I'm a bit worried about wear to the hose due to how tight it needs to bend, and possibly rubbing on the bonnet. I've seen coloured, anodised fittings for fuel lines, so wondered if these can be used on the 106 filter. What should I be looking for and who would be a good supplier? I'm pretty lacking in knowledge with these things.

DrSarty 90 1 Cars Posted August 24, 2008 GTi6 fuel pipes have 2off 90deg bend pieces to avoid fouling on the bonnet stay. Get some of those perhaps; just not from me, as I have none.
mrswampy 0 Posted August 24, 2008 Keep joins in fuel hoses to a minimum if it was me id run new slightly longer fuel hoses
KRISKARRERA 2 1 Cars Posted August 24, 2008 I removed the fuel pulse damper on my car and replaced the hose so mine goes straight up vertically from the fuel pressure regulator and then has to turn more than 90 degrees to head down to the metal fuel lines. It rubs on the bonnet so I have cable tied a bit of plastic sleeve to it. I don't know how tight the bend in the pipe can be before it starts restricting flow. Oh well. You'll probably see a thread about an engine fire eventually.
GLPoomobile 958 Posted August 24, 2008 Keep joins in fuel hoses to a minimumif it was me id run new slightly longer fuel hoses I'm fitting all new braided lines. Length is not a problem (although my wife might disagree) it's the bend required between the top of the filter and the bonnet, hence I think a proper 90 degree fitting would be beneficial. DrSarty 90 1 Cars Posted August 24, 2008 Can't you rotate the filter, anywhere up to 90deg, and still keep it in the standard location? Alternatively, house the jack inside the spare wheel (like me & others) & mount the filter there instead - again like me and others have? Rich P.S. Curry dodger. GLPoomobile 958 Posted August 25, 2008 Rich, I really don't want to change my plans now. I originally was going to mount it on the inner wing but decided to go with a nice and simple, OE looking install using the phase 1 coil bracket in the original filter location. So I really don't want to fanny about getting the filter to sit differently. A 90 degree adaptor on top of the filter is the way to go I believe.
