Speedo Cable Snapped

Recommended Posts

I recently bought a lovely cherry (orange) red 1.6 gti to replace my fiesta. During fixing it up and taking it a drive, we've noticed the speedo wasnt working, so had a look about and the cables snapped. I do have a spare though, so thats a bonus. The question is, how do i fit the thing?? Checked on the spare engine and box i got and i can see the part the cable goes into, but there appears to be a small piece of cable already in that. So does it looks as thought im going to have to pop the driveshaft, check the speedo gears and replace the whole thing???

My cable snapped recently and left a bit of cable (the bottom squared off piece) just pick it out with long nosed pliers. Alternatively remove the drive gear from the top of the spare 'box and use that?

In that case the drive pinions are only a couple of quid from pug, but reckon it'll come out easy enough

Have you tried removing the worm driver from the box, turning it upside down and tapping it on something? I think it is just a push fit for the cable from memory and the worm is held in with a 10mm bolt.

Alternatively push a pin through the base of it and poke it out that way if pliers won't do.
