Bakes100 20 1 Cars Posted August 21, 2008 Hi Guys I have a Citroen BX instrument cluster knocking about and i have heard you can fit them into a 205. I had a go the other day at it looks like some of the plugs seem to be different fitments! do i need to convert them over to fit or is the dash im trying to fit maybe from a different car,not a bx. Any help is welcome Thanks
taylorspug 7 Posted August 21, 2008 The instrument cluster should plug straight in to the original 205 wiring, so you may have the wrong unit. However it isnt just a simple plug and play, as the oil pressure guage in the bx dials wont work properly (reads maximum IIRC). I got around this by taking the whole oil pressure guage unit out of the 205 dials and fitting it into the bx ones, works fine. However there is a wiring mod you can do to get the bx one working if you would prefer.
Bakes100 20 1 Cars Posted August 21, 2008 Dont the gauges look slightly different? ie they wont match up if i swap them over? Whats involved in the wiring mod? is it reasonably simple. Thanks
taylorspug 7 Posted August 21, 2008 No keep the BX guage face, but transfer all the working parts from the 205 dials. Its exactly what ive done with mine and they work good as gold. Ive never done the wiring mod, as i thought it was better to just fit a std part rather than modifying stuff.
Bakes100 20 1 Cars Posted August 21, 2008 Oh yea i see what you mean, yea that sounds the best thing to do save tampering with the wiring and all. I have another look at the connectors on cluster tonight cos i was maybe just being thick . Thanks for the help.

DaveW 6 Posted August 23, 2008 They fit stright in after you remove a extra block on the back of it, i did have a pic of the dials but i cant find it now.
Phil H 16 Posted August 23, 2008 I just eased the BX needles off, removed the fascia parts, including the green backing and assembled them into a GTI cluster and then popped the BX needles onto the GTI one. Took less than half hour.
Henry Yorke 269 3 Cars Posted August 23, 2008 The Greenness is in the sticker on the BX whereas the orangeness is in the plastic on a 205. In otherwords you can't make the standard 205 dials light up green unless you really faffed about with green bulbs and pulling the 205 stickers off and putting them on clear BX backings.
