shalmaneser 26 Posted August 20, 2008 Was in the scrappy yesterday and spotted a VTS (which is basically the gti-6 one, isn't it?) and although the engine was absent, it did have all the hubs, brakes and master cylinder, all great condition too. So what i want to know is could I have nabbed the whole lot and banged them on, or do i specifically need 205 gti hubs? I know you can't run the big discs on the 1.6 hubs (or wheels, but I'll deal with that later), but do the 306 hubs fit on the 205 shafts/shocks/wishbone? Cheers in advance. welshpug 1,655 Posted August 20, 2008 you can fit the whole lot to your 1.6 as long as you also fit 1.9 shafts.
Alan_M 66 1 Cars Posted August 20, 2008 Don't some of the GTi6 hubs have holes for the lower balljoint, that are too big for a 205? Arms and ARB are probably worth grabbing though.
welshpug 1,655 Posted August 20, 2008 indeed they do, 18mm instead of the earlier 16mm. rear brakes are probably worth grabbing.
shalmaneser 26 Posted August 20, 2008 the wishbones (i guess that's what you mean by 'arms') fit as well? so current shopping list: hubs, discs (f+r), calipers, master cyclinder, servo (?) ARB (front), wishbones? about right?
taylorspug 7 Posted August 20, 2008 The hubs will supposedly give you less negative camber on a std setup than the 205 items (although ive never tried it myself), so that is worth bearing in mind as it isnt exactly ideal. Not much point having the servo or the front arb, its the rear arb and beam arms that are worth having, which i think is what Alan is getting at.
shalmaneser 26 Posted August 20, 2008 (edited) fair enough, i assumed alan meant front as i know the rear is a lot wider, but i guess that's just achieved through the trailing arms? don't like the idea of less front camber, the fronts get scrubbed enough as it is! ETA: i meant the rear beam is a lot wider on a 306 than a 205 Edited August 20, 2008 by shalmaneser
Alan_M 66 1 Cars Posted August 21, 2008 The actual beam is wider than a 205. You can get the ARB machined down to fit a 205/309 beam by 205 Parts for a fraction of the price when compared to buying one outright. Rear arms are the same and should slot straight in Yep, worth grabbing the rear calipers too.
jonnie205 1 Posted August 21, 2008 i would get hubs if 16mm front brakes GTI6 and worth a fair bit rack, best rack you can get is on a xsara vts rear arms arms are good
