Batfink 201 Posted August 20, 2008 Now I'm not convinced my touring car throttlebodies are from an alloy mi16 engine as I was told as I dont think the port spacing matches. I've done a search on the forum but came up blank. Are they different between the models or have I something from another car?

welshpug 1,661 Posted August 20, 2008 AFAIK all 16v XU's use the same port and stud pattern, just the location of a dowel and arrangement of studs differ.
Batfink 201 Posted August 20, 2008 ok cool. Looks like plan B is in motion then lol
James_R 3 Posted August 21, 2008 Depends how the "porting" was done I guess
Batfink 201 Posted August 21, 2008 I think they would have to have completely welded up the head and started again to get the port spacing on my manifold. Seems extreme but not impossible to have a completely different head design but I doubt its really the case.
James_R 3 Posted August 21, 2008 The Vauxhalls certainly had compelely different heads (Swindon Race Engine's) reverse heads, awesome bit of kit, but mega bucks budget to do that Coudl have been a totally new casting etc... as above
Batfink 201 Posted August 21, 2008 arse lol I forgot about the Vauxhalls. I'm not going to wait for a touring car head so i'll look at a custom inlet manifold as I want to play a bit with the length, I want a short manifold and very long trumpets after the throttlebodies. Probably wont work but it will be interesting research
James_R 3 Posted August 21, 2008 I'd do what ever Sandy recommends myself
Batfink 201 Posted August 21, 2008 thats always an option i'll not be ruling out , but i'd like to experiment to see what happens
kyepan 291 Posted August 21, 2008 the old f1 cars used to have variable inlet tract lenght that changed through the rev range to keep the shockwaves positively charging the cylinders.
Batfink 201 Posted August 21, 2008 wonder how it worked Hydraulics controlled by the ECU? Though I can guarantee its not something I could make so we can rule it out here lmao
James_R 3 Posted August 21, 2008 There's always the tappered design to go for. could cast your own, just get collecting takeaway tubs
